I had a child placed in my home when she was 2months due to her parents drug habits the biomother has had 9 children removed and the bio father father goes in and out of his drug habit, now child is 2yrs and the biofathers mother who resides in puertorico wants to take the baby from me this lady is well into her late 60's. I'm broken hearted and I don't know what to do please help any suggestions

Are you related to this child? How did it come to be that she was placed with you?

What is the exact custody arrangement - Court ordered? Foster care? Someone handed the child to you?

Get an Attorney and fight back.

Please define "placed"? ANY question on law needs to include your general locale as laws vary by area.

If the child was fostered to you, talk to your case worker.

I am not related to the child she was placed in my home by a foster care agency and unfortunately the case planner doesn't see how this can affect the child and myself. There is no support in my agency it seems like these case planners are immune to the sensitivity that is built between a foster parent and a child.

Could you afford an Attorney for advice, perhaps there's a law school nearby which could help in some way?

I know the Social Workers don't have it easy - my sister is one. I know sometimes she comes home and cries. The law isn't necessarily always right.

I'm just wondering if there's something you could do.

I don't understand what you are saying. On the surface this looks like the case worker is saying it won't affect you, that you will keep the child.

Fostering a child is a thankless task (bless you for doing it). Very often the fostered child moves on. But if you want to make the arrangement permanent you have to go to court to do so. You will have to show that removing the child form what has become their home, even if it means to go to family, is not in the best interests of the child.

So I went court and a attorney was appointed to me by the court, hopefully this will help me and the child I will not go without a fight I love this child more than life itself, it's unfortunate that foster parents whom dedicate themselves to the children are then taken for granted... So my journey begins now please wish us luck...

My sister is a social worker - I think sometimes the only way to sleep at night is to sort of remove yourself emotionally from the work situation.

I agree with you - I've seen some really bad decisions on the part of Child Services.

Great! In many places the court will not appoint an attorney for someone in your situation.
