I have a house that has been vacant for 1 1/2 years. The electric, gas, water have been shut off and the house was winterized. Want to have all utilities turned back on. Can I turn electric on first without anything else and if so will it harm anything in the house? Also since it was winterized what needs to be done when the water is turned back on?

You will turn the water on first. If you don't you'll burn the elements out in the water heater.(if it's electric.) Make sure you open a hot water faucet to bleed off the air as the tank fills. Once you have water bin the house you may turn on the rest of the utilities. Good luck, Tom

Thank you for responding, I can turn water on before electric is turned on in the house? The hot water heater is gas. Will hot water heater work without electric. I apologize for my ignorance however, I am on my own and money is limited on gettng the house fixed so I can move back in.

I'm trying to set up a recirculating dog bathing system. Normally the groomer puts the reciruclator in the tub with the dog adds soap and water then uses the pump with hose attached to wash the dog.
I don't want to have the recirculator in the tub so have had it set up so the water and soap drain into a 20 gallon bin below the tub witch I then reciruclate to wash..
The tub is too low to drain into the existing system that runs through a rock wall, so changing it would be a problem. So the plumber put in a pump to drain up and out to the septic, however it's not effective.. I'm going to build a platform to elevate the tub and drain normally.. Here is my problem.. Is there a way to drain from one tub drain to the 20 gallon bin below the tub then some how switch the drain flow to go out the drain to septic? Or would I have to have two drains?.

Sure you can. I haven't CAD aps, or I'd draw you a picture. As it is et me lay it out for you. From the tub drain to a wye. Then a valve off each branch of the wye. From one valve you will connect to the drainage system and the other to drain into the bin With both valve closed water remains in the tub and you can wash the pooch, After , depending on which valve you open you can either drain the tub or to the septic system. I know this is probably far fetched, but are there valves that can be switched remotely?. I guess electronically.. Something I could mount by the tub for easy switching..
