A women I slept with has told me she is pregnant,she is very insistent that I put my name on the birth certificate.
Do I have too?
I'm not sure if I am the father but have no reason not to believe her.

You better have reason to doubt her based on how you describe her...

Don't just sign the birth certificate but insist on a DNA test after the child is born first... this is as much to protect YOU as it is to answer who the real father is.

There have been too many cases of women naming the wrong men to be the father over history... with DNA testing at least now you can know for sure if it is.

I don't know. Is she physcially forcing you to sign? Is she threatening to use a weapon of mass destruction if you refuse? :)

No, she cannot make you sign an affidavit of paternity. As a matter of fact, and as Smoothy has suggested, unless you are sure, you should not sign. To sign a false affidavit is, technically, a crime.

She can not force you to sign, ( no one can force you to)

After the child is born, she can, or you can ask for a DNA test though the courts.

Actually, from what I've been learning, you may not have a choice. In many places a birth certificate is filled in and submitted by the hospital and does not require a signature of the parents. So if she tells the hospital you are the father that's what goes on the certificate. However, that doesn't mean you can't do anything about it. When the child is born you can request that a paternity test be done, and if it comes out negative you can request a court order to remove your name.

If she asks for support you tell her to go to court to confirm paternity first.
