Security Deposit on a Lease Renewel
Last year I signed a lease for a villa which required first and last rent. After I signed the lease the 'realtor' asked if I can possibly pay a security deposit. I said no... I moved into the place and it was filthy... I had to clean and paint. I told her she had to take that into consideration.

Now it is time to renew and now the lease has a section that is handwritted they are requesting $1000 security deposit after I have lived her already and I had to clean and paint to get this place livable. She doesn't do what I ask her to fix or replace and if and when she does it takes forever. I've lived here the entire time and never had hot water in the front shower.

Is this normal? What can I do to protect myself?

What can you do... you can find another place to rent... otherwise a new lease is a new lease and they very well CAN require that before allowing you to remain there another year.
