I was with my ex for 3 years. He moved into my house. Then we split up 6 months ago. He still pays 200 a months on my rent, and gives me money. We don't have any kids together. He says he wants to cut all ties but he still calls around. We don't sleep together. I don't understand.

If he wants to cut all ties, cut all ties. He probably just feels bad leaving you hanging like that, make it easier on him and yourself and stop taking his money and go NC.

Go no contact and don't let him keep paying for you. He probably feels somewhat responsible for you still, tell him it is OK to leave you alone and start moving on.

He is either soothing his own guilt, or keeping you on a string in case he changes his mind. Don't let him do either, stop taking his money, and tell him to stop coming around. Then the confusion will slowly fade.
