I don't quite understand why you think your partner is spreading a "nasty rumor" and what the rumor is.

Ask the people who say something to you what they are talking about.

I wouldn't be sure that this came from your partner. People talk about other people all the time. Why do you think your partner is talking behind your back?

1.kick your partner to the curb if it is so bad that it has changed the way close friends and family think

2. Close friends and family should know you, and know how you really are, if they will believe something so untrue, to change their friendship, guess they were not really friends anyway..
