We bought a house built in 1945. The bathroom sink drained fine for a while, but acouple of months ago the sink stopped draining. We do have a septic system. We have tried using a snake to no avail. We also have cut a whole in the wall and took apart the drain further down but it still won't drain. The toilet and tub drain fine. We have the old cast iron pipes, don't know what to do next other than call plumber, which we can't afford right now.
Any suggestion would be great!

If the lavatory drain line's clear to the sanitary tee as you indicate then there is only one more thing that could be wrong. You have cast iron stacks in your home. It's possible for the cast iron to flake off on the inside and block the base. The other fixtures would function but the lavatory would be blocked. While this is rare I know it can happen because it happened to my 53 year old home. Check the base of the lavatory vent stack. If that's the case then the only solution is to replace the stack and bend at the base which works into major surgery and much $. In case you're wondering what I did, since this was a 1/2 bath and the other fixtures drained I closed off the lavatory. Believe me when I say, "I feel your pain!!" good luck, Tom
