I read a book about 7years ago about a poor woman who had, I think, 3 or 4 children. One child is a crippled boy who rides on a little cart. I think the cart was built by one of the older children. The woman had a husband who just came home after being gone for a while. He brought the boy to a drinking place of some sort and the people there spinning the boy on his cart and the child accidentally smashed his head someplace and died. I think the book's title was woodsmoke or something like that. I already googled it and I couldn't find anything. The book was already pretty old when I read it 7 years ago.
