How does density affect the frequncy of a singing wine glass? And why?
This is all about Resonance
Breaking a wine glass using resonance, oscillating a wine glass by playing sound at its resonance frequency.
Thanks! So the more dense the liquid, the less resonance? Because it is harded for the glass to vibrate?
Each object have a special music note , by playing sound at its resonance frequency you are able to play that note then you are able to break that object: Tacoma Narrows Bridge
But you are able to change that special music note just like guitar strings that you are able to change strings note with putting your finger on different fret
OK sorry to keep asking but I just wanted to check: what happens when the liquid inside a wine glass is more dense? Will the frequency change?
Think about the effect of the liquid on the vibrating glass - it serves to dampen the motion. As the glass vibrates it alternately pushes and pulls on the liquid that's in contact with it, so the heavier the liquid the "harder" it is to move, and so you would expect the glass to vibrate slower. So the frequency of the vibration is reduced.
