Filing unemployment for work in Nevada
    Here is my predicament.

I worked last summer in NV at Callville Bay Lake mead. When I returned back from NV to CA, I applied for unemployment. I did not get it at that time, however they told me that if I tried back next quarter it may change.

So now, I am currently employed as a 1099 independent contractor here in CA. But my problem is that I RARELY get hours. Maybe 5-10 a week.. I need much more than this. I do canvassing (door to door sales) I am paid hourly, not commission.

You may ask why I don't just work more? Well we are only allowed to work with our team leader ( so they know we aren't billing them for hours that we did not work). But my team leader never works because he is also a real estate agent and he is busy.

So my question is this: If I apply for unemployment with the state of Nevada, will I be able to keep my independent contractor job? Or will I be able to resign and collect unemployment from my previous job?

I doubt they are going to let us go because NOBODY wants to do this job.. trust me when its 100 degrees outside knocking on peoples doors in a long sleeve button up and tie is not what most people want to do.. I just don't want to quit because I need money, but finding a job in my area is very difficult. I am also in school with a baby coming in 4 months, just looking for any help I can get from our government so I can focus on school and not have to waste so much time finding a job.

1099 worker is not an employee and will not qualify for unemployment, it is considered self employment. So no unemployment taxes are paid for you doing this.

You have to have so many quarters of qualified work to draw unemployment and be fired from a job where you are an employee, a 1099 worker is not an employee for unemployment rules

Yes I understand that. But my employment taxes that I paid in NV are no longer there? My job in Nevada was not 1099, I paid taxes. But I was unable to collect any of it because they told me I needed to wait until the quarter had passed and we had started a new one.

So I won't be able to collect unemployment from my NV job which wasnt 1099 because I am now "self employed"?

Correct, if the NV job ( stops your contact) they don't fire you since you are not employed you can not go to collect unemployment since your "business" just closed.

I disagree with Fr_Chuck. I believe you could file for UI benefits for last quarter, being careful to report that you are currently getting a minimual income from "independent contracting" (give them the amount).
