    Payne air conditioner
I replaced the capacitor today on our payne ac unit. This got the fan back running properly however the compressor doesn't seem to be engaged since the warm air is coming in still. Circuit Breakers are checked and OK. Any advise would be greatly appreciated.

The model of your system will help. When you replaced the run capacitor for the motor was the old capacitor a dual capacitor? Did you check and recheck the wiring. If so make sure you don't have a wire burnt off the compressor post. You will have to remove the compressor electrical cover to check. MAKE SURE YOU TURN THE POWER OFF FIRST.

Most likely the compressor is HOT and is out on compressor thermal overload---- it can take many hours for compressor to cool enough to reset thermal overload. You can cool compressor quickly by running water over compressor till it cools off.
