When have a unit up and down, is the larger unit up or down?
I live in a two story house. I have two a/c units. One for upstairs and one for downstairs. Should the larger unit be upstairs or downstairs? In other words, should I have a 3 ton for the downstairs unit and a 2.5 tone for the upstairs unit or should they be reversed? Thanks.

What are the sq feet of each living space. ( usable space)

Do they work off separate thermostats?

Is the upstairs and the down stairs open to each other ?

    Hello,

Thank you for your prompt response.

Both levels are the same - around 1700 square feet.

    We have two thermostats.

The two levels are opened to each other.

    Does that help?

Generally speaking you use the larger unit, where most heat is generated. This is most likely the first floor. However, if levels are open to each other it may make little difference . I would leave them as is
