Artesian Well - Need Pressure Tank but no Pump?
I have a great artesian well. When you open up a 2" valve it is like a fire hydrant. today I put a pressure gauge on it after reducing the opening to a 3/4" size and was surprised that it only read 18 psi. Is this because of reducing it down to 3/4"? I plan on using 1.5" pipe from the well to the house and was hoping I could get away with not having a pressure tank. Maybe I need a pressure tank but artesian flow no pump. How do I figure it out? I'm doing most of this myself and this part is a bit mysterious. The house is only 416 sf with one shower, a kitchen sink and a bathroom sink. The toilet is a composting one and there is no garbage disposal, dishwasher, etc. The house is 225' from the well. Any advice about how to proceed would be greatly appreciated.

No! Reducing the size reduces the volume not the pressure. At a well head pressure of 18 PSI and a 225 foot service line you're going to need a booster pump to increase the pressure up to where it's. Usable. Although some flats in the UK pipe their water up to a holding tank in the attic and let gravity do the rest. You can give it a try without a booster pump but to get average pressure you'll need a pump. Tom
