Hi please help me I knowingly returned a large amount of clother over a period to a large store. On Friday the Loss Prevention officer asked me to go into a room where he told me that they suspected me of this for which I admitted immediately. I was asked for driving license which I gave, I was banned from the store and any other of the companys store, given a civil recovery letter, they did not call the police, I am so ashamed and keep looking out the window for the police to arrive, will they have passed this on to the police?

If you don't pay them what they say you owe them.. they can and most likely WILL turn it over to the police. Just because they haven't done it yet doesn't mean they still can't.

They have nt asked me for any money and I would willingly pay anything they ask me I feel like throwing myself in front of a train

First how much money did you steal, if it is 100 dollars or 10,000 makes a large difference.
Just exactly what did you confess to, at the store.
Next you said they gave you a "civil recovery letter" that is where they would tell you how much money you owe the store for their time and trouble.

But at this point if they were gong to call the police they would have at the store.

It was maybe £400, worth they gave me the civil notice and said they may use it, I would happily pay £1000 to them if it meant I was nt waiting for the police to come or a letter from the court, am really not coping with this very well , and feeling suicidal

Suicidal, please stop with the drama, you were a crook, you decided to steal and you knew it was wrong, so now you get caught and you are "sorry"

You are not sorry you did this, you are only sorry you got caught, had you not gotten caught most likely you would still be doing it.

Lets talk frank here.

If they call the police it will be a fine, and most likely probation. But you can assume the store will be sending a demand for payment over next few months.

And most likely this scare will do you some good, and make you think twice next time.

Hi chuck you are right I would still be doing it and I am glad I got caught, I am very sorry for what I did and deep down knew it was wrong, I have nt told my husband he does nt deserve any of this he's kind honest decent person not like me, I do feel suicidal. You really should tell your husband... he's likely to find out on his own.. then how do you think he's going to feel about being deceived... particularly when you have to write out a big check to them... or have to hire a lawyer because you didn't.
