My monitor permanently has no signal and just switches to sleep mode after a few seconds.
The computer has onboard graphics, but if I put in a PCI graphics card and connect the same monitor, it works fine. I know for sure that it is still loading windows because it worked with the other card but also can hear the windows sound when it eventually gets to that stage.
At the same time as the monitor stopping, the onboard network socket has stopped too.
For that I got a PCI network card which works fine.
I can't find any information on what BIOS it is as the monitor doesn't start at all.
I also can't find what onboard graphics there are, but I know they are not very powerful.

Please provide details on your PC, such as cpu, chipset, etc.

Using an PCI graphics card, tells us your monitor is working.

If it is working with the card, why not just use that? It should be a lot better then most onboard graphics solutions...

I can't actually see anything on the screen so I can't find any data on those things. Can I find it on the motherboard itself?
The graphics card isn't mine and I can't use it at the moment. If it was mine, it still doesn't fix the problem!

Hmm, let me try to understand this.

1. You don't hear Windows loading up when using the onboard video, and monitor has no video.

2. You hear windows loading when using a PCI video card but still no video.

Is this about right?

With the PCI video card, is anything displayed at all when you first turn on the PC? Is this the first time it happened?

I can hear windows booting every time, regardless of what cards I am/not using.

See, the problem we are trying to figure out is whether it is a monitor problem, or a graphics problem. Since you say the computer is booting OK, it should be a graphics or monitor problem. Make sense?

If pci card works fine sounds as if drivers are installed for this and onboard graphics may be dissabled/removed you could use drivers disk from motherboard to reinstall onboard graphics.

As I said before, the monitor works and the computer boots. The monitor doesn't get input when connected to the onboard graphics but it does when it's connected to PCI graphics.
Another odd thing is sometimes the keyboard and mouse don't work when I turn on the computer and I have to reboot it to make them work.
Also, I removed everything from the computer the other day (except the power supply) including the motherboard battery, and the computer booted fine (with the monitor working with the onboard graphics) but it wasn't loading the BIOS setup screen and there was no way to access it. So I tried setting the jumper to the CMOS clear to see if that would work. The booted after that and the monitor has stopped working again.

It seems your on-board video is flaky. If the PCI video is working as you posted, I suggest you buy one. The prices are quite reasonable right now too. You'll get better graphics performance too.

I don't want the performance, it worked well without the graphics card.
Also, buying a PCI card doesn't really fix the problem, it's just a work around.
I would prefer to find a way to fix it (including the network and input devices).

Even if BIOS was configured wrong, and set to use PCI for your video, your onboard card should still work during the POST test.

It sounds like your onboard graphics card is not working at all. If this is actually the case, you have two options. One - buy a PCI graphics card and use it. Two - buy a new motherboard.
