I am tired of this alarm --- every time I try to input a new user code I can't get the alarm panel to recognize what I've just done. What exactly are the step by step steps to add a new user to the alarm panel? I am the Master code on the alarm... so tell me exactly... push * 5 my code _ _ _ _ and then what ?

Sounds Like a DSC Power 1864, Nice Panel, You need the User 1 Master Code, which may actually be called user 40. Secondary Users can not add codes, The user code identifies individual users(who arm/disarms etc).
If anyone could add a code, no one would know who the new user was that entered the code and disarmed the system in the middle of the night.
I work mostly with the PC5010/1832 which is capable of 32 zones, the 1864 is capable of 64 zones.
You need to do it through *6, not *8.
