If you don't have a labor contract... or aren't a Union member... then you are an AT-WILL employee... and yes they can do that... and no there is nothing you can do.

Sounds odd they admitted you INTO a hospital for "Bed rest".. when they send you home after many types of Surgery to recover because of the cost of hospital stays.

How long have you worked there ? How large a company was there. Did you let them know, (call in) this morning or the first morning you missed, did you call in and inform them of the doctors info, did you have a copy of this emailed or faxed into them.

    1. if you just went to doctor and did not call in that you would not be there, is one issue

Is there a HR department you can call and discuss this or does your company have an appeal policy ?

As an At-WILL employee you are their at their will... or your own... which mean they can toss you out when they want or you can up and leave whenever you want. There is no RIGHT to remain employed there. Except under specific conditions listed under the EEOC.
