I have been in a rental house for 2 yrs. The washer and dryer are in the basement. My basement is a "true" basement, entirely underground. Anyway, the hoses go up about 8 ft into a pipe that runs under my kitchen sink and dishwasher and evidently drains through there. The problem is, it quit draining and going into spin last week. It will still wash. The pump doesn't seem to be working anymore. It's a Kenmore (probably 20 yrs old). I went to buy a new washer and when they came to install, they refused, saying the "newer" washers can't pump up that high. My landlord isn't going to do anything about the plumbing. Am I stuck with buying an old machine and hoping for the best? I went to 5 appliance stores. This washer was from a private store, very reputabile, not a "big box" store. Please help me!!

Replace the pump in the old washer. Then it should work like it did before. Other than this idea I would have to be there to look it all over to offer other ideas. Good luck.

I have seen the same thing in Georgia. The older machines have more powerful pumps. You can also run a drain line into a gravel bed or use a sump pump.
