    Sprained Ankle/ foot
I landed on top of a small hurdle during a circuit class 10 weeks ago and my foot went over to one side. At first I did think it was broken it swelled up almost striaght away. My whole foot, ankle and part of my leg was very swollen and had heavy bruising for a couple of weeks. I had an X-ray but was told it was just a sprained ankle. I was unable to walk properly for a few weeks. 10 weeks on I still have a lot of pain and my ankle and part of my foot still often becomes swollen and hurts to touch. I am doing the excercises that the hospital gave me to do, but this doesn't seemed to have helped and I still have to take pain killers especially of a night as even the quilt resting on my ankle still keeps me awake. I don't know what to do for the best do I rest it more am I just being impatient as I did think it may feel abit better by now or do I go back to gentle excerises as I am greatly missing this and the pounds are piling on?

I would get a second professional opinion by an orthopedic specialist, not a general medical doctor. However, usually a general or family medical doctor or ER (Emergency Room) doctor will need to refer you to an orthopedic specialist, or other.

    Follow-up Appointment:

    Quote:

Follow-up for ankle sprains is needed only if the ankle is not healing well. This could indicate there is a previously undetected fracture or torn ligaments. An orthopedic or podiatric specialist should be consulted if initial treatment fails. Go to a doctor for follow-up care if any of the following situations:

•You cannot walk on the injured ankle within a week of the injury.

•The ankle continues to hurt after two weeks.
