how to re-support an existing pergola
I have a free standing pergola... the 4 6x6 posts are warping pretty bad. I was thinking of buying a structural column to replace the 6x6's, by cutting them at the post and rafter point, can someone give me an answer how to properly replace the 6x6's without taking this structure apart. Thanks

You will need to crib -support -the section where you want to remove the post, cut the ole one out and install the new one. Same practice is used to remove a wall in a house.

Build an A frame on each side of post to be removed.Use 2x6 lumber. Build A frame on a bottom plate. After frame is set, nail a cross beam at bottom of frame and another about 1/2 way up. Raise area of post about 1/4'' for easy removal and installation. After new post is in position, remove A frame and secure new post.

Repeat for each post u have to replace. Do one at a time.

    Good luck
