Sink drain diameter, other issues
We just put in a new sink drain and try as we might, it doesn't seem to be housed in there correctly. We are having a difficult time getting it seated level, and there is a gap (which my husband filled with putty). The gap is nearly 1/8" all around, not flush like the other (original) side. The diameter of the outside rim/flange is 4 1/2 ". Supposedly the one we bought is standard, but it is not quite 4 1/2". If we get one that advertises that it is 4 1/2", rather than just "standard", will that make a difference.
Also, the sink is about 35 years old. Are we just not going to be able to find a good fit because of obsolescence?
Lastly, is that putty thing going to work? Three days into it, and it's still---well, like putty! Would not using the sink for a few days help?
Or do we just need to call a plumber?
Thanks!
