Could you be thinking of evening primrose oil to ripen the cervix? How far along are you? Are you set for an induction?

There is a old "wifes" tale about fish oil and/or castor oil helping to start a women to go into pregnancy.

Primrose oil is not for labor induction but to help ripen the cervix in anticipation of an induction. If your cervix is not ready, nothing will get labor going, or at least not smoothly.

Many women feel castor oil worked for them to induce labor; it has been used for generations, however, some people (some midwives included), feel the potential benefits do not outweigh the potential risks.

There are less invasive means of trying to get things started. How far along are you and why is your care provider talking about inducing?
