    30 Day Notice
I sublet an apartment from my old roommate. In mid-January he told me he was going to move out the first of March. I had a new job starting February 1st, so February was a bad month to move. I found a place and moved out by the beginning of February. May I had everything out by the 7th to 10th, although most of it was moved by the fourth. I had problems moving into the new place because it was an eviction, which I was not told about by the new landlady. After I was told to move, am I still responsible to give 30 day notice in California.

Why do you ask? As I understand it, the main tenant (your "sub- landlord") said he was moving and suggested you should too. This wouldn't constitute the requisite notice to quit unless it was in writing and unambigiously told you to be out by a time certain.

But as a sub-tenant, you had no obligation to inform the "main" landlord. So again, I ask, why does it matter? Is someone claiming you didn't give sufficient notice and therefore owe rent for some period if time?

You give notice when it is your decision to move.
