I believe it's a movie from the 80's / 90's. I believe it was an all asian cast but not a low budget movie, probably drama and I believe it even won some awards. One scene I recall this couple, asian, after one of them had been to buy groceries were dividing the cost of the groceries and asked the other for the money that was spent on cat food! Don't know why that scene stuck in my mind, I would like to see the movie again to see how it ended
