In this case it seems to not be a good idea. Why not sit down and talk about taking a break so that you don't lose the good friendship you have? Maybe you are both just too young for an exclusive relationship. At least you know what is happening - sounds like it boils down to possessiveness, jealousy, and high expectations. Very common!
