    Concerned Granddaughter
On April 11 2012 my grandmother had an outpatient procedure done on her right leg, within 24 hours she was in ICU on life support, failing kidneys, sepsis, and a heart attack. After 9 days on the vent they took her off and kept her 4 more days in ICU. She was moved to an accute long term care facility. Her mind has not been right since she woke up in ICU, Friday she was given 2 units of blood on Sunday she was having difficulty breathing. In the wee hours on Monday she fell out of bed and is now on the vent again. On Tuesday she coded and was revived and given 2 more units of blood. Today they are saying she has a low platelets and they are giving her platelets and saying they think the membranes in her lungs are leaking. All of this to ask has anyone delt with a situation like this before? The doctors and nurses act like they don't want to be honest with us. Please anyone in the medical profession just tell me what we could be looking at long term

I am a nurse and we do not "cover" for each other. We tell the truth.

Now, your grandmother... how old is she? Age is always a factor with medicine.
