The only person who can answer whether you should get with him is yourself. Were you happy in the relationship? Why did it break off in the first place? You should not take into account whether his Mum likes you or not, at the end of the day it is about you and him. His Mum is entitled to an opinion but it should not be an influential factor to whether you should be with someone.

If you love him and you know it can work, then it is worth a shot speaking to him about the situation and how he feels. But as you haven't said why you both split up in the first place, it is difficult to advise.
