Whirlpool 29" Gas Dryer: My 4 year old gas dryer is not heating. The drum runs, but no heat. I have followed instructions found on-line and checked the over heat sensor, thermostat, Igniter, flame sensor and solenoids. All are working. I am at a loss as to what can cause the lack of heat. Any ideas?

Does the ignitor glow? Can you hear the gas valve click open? Gas turned on?

The ignitor does not glow, can't hear the gas valve, the gas it turned on.

You may need an ignitor, how didyou check it and the high temp fuse?

With a multimeter. I checked for continuity.

You have a centrifugal switch on the motor that has to close for the gas valve to open and to start the entire heating process. With unit unplugged you should be able to move centrifugal switch on motor shaft. It slides to and away from switch. That way you can check the switch. You can also remove it and check it. Hope this helps. The manuals are close and should help.

Can the switch be replaced, or would the entire motor need to be replaced? And what am I looking for when checking the switch? Continuity or a specific reading?

You can replace just the switch. The switch should open and close. It will be normally open then when weights go outward it should close. You can manually slide the switch with a screwdriver by putting screwdriver on the collar on the shaft and sliding it back and forth. You can also remove the switch and move a lever to test it.
