Can a store press shoplifting charges for past videos?
I received a letter in the mail from a store owner claiming she 'saw me use clippers to cut a garden hose "nozzle" from its package, put it in my pocket, and toss the package in another aisle.' I originally would have merely laughed this off as mistaken identity but the night she claimed this happened was an evening I had an adverse reaction when mistakenly, and unintentionally taking a couple strong tablets for a sleeping disorder. On the same date she claimed, I have no recollection of a good portion of that evening due to partial black-out. My family says I did go to that store, and I do have a receipt for the item I must have gone there for, but no nozzle can be found in my car nor at home. The owner claimed she turned the footage on cd over to the police and instructed me to not come back. Should I call to explain and appologize if it was me, write a letter, or count this as settled and just stay away as requested?
