    That was not the answer to my question. I know about California site. The answers there are too long and complicated. All I wanted was a short version on a definition of tax credit.

    There IS no short answer.

    Estate and inheritance taxes are a separate area of the tax field. There are accountants who do NOTHING BUT estate taxes, and they are very well paid for it, because it is HARD WORK!
