Tempstar Central air. Outside unit the fan will not engage but if just nudged will take off. Sounds as if unit tries to cycle while fan is running but does not. After a few minutes fan shuts off. No issue with unit at all. Then this issue. Any advice? It is an electric unit

This can turn out to be a really cheap and easy fix. When a run capacitor on a motor is bad it gives the same symptom you just described. It's a cheap part and it can be found at any hvac supplier or company. Our company will test it for free if you bring it to us in hopes you buy the part from us. I'm sure one in your area would do the same.
