Can I take lysine during pregnancy for a cold sore?
I am 6 weeks preganant. I heard that lysine (cream and pill) is a good cure for cold sores. I just got a cold sore yesterday and I wanted to try it. Is it safe to take Lysine if I am 6 weeks pregnant? I am 21 years old and live in New Jersey (if that matters.)

Since Lysine typically contains Ibuprofen (Motrin), it is not safe to use in pregnancy.

Can you suggest anything that I WOULD be able to take? Is it possible for a home remedy to be unsafe? Dabbing isopropyl alcohol or baking soda...
(and thanks for responding so quickly. Your response was clear and helpful.

At 6 weeks gestation it would be best to just ride it through without any form of medication. I know it's hard, and it's painful, but you have to do what is safe for your baby. If all else fails, ask you OB what he/she recommends for you.
