    Can I become a parole officer if I have a domestic violence
    I was 18 years old.. I had a big fight with a my ex boyfriend... I was arrested because he had bruises an I did not.. I did not have a lawyer... I was young an stupid.. I plead guilty... I am now 28 an I want to become a parole officer will this conviction effect me

    In my area, NY, you will not be hired. I would think a PO with "experience" would be valuable. The State does not agree.

    No, a domestic violence stops you from being able to carry a weapon, ( most areas , all that I know of) It stops you from becoming POST certfied in your state, which is reqired because this is a law enforcement position.

    Also this is a very very competitive position. About 100 applications or more for any one slot.
    Correctional officers and police offficers see this often as a promotion, as to many counseolors and others.

    At a min you will need a college degree, ( often in counselor or social work) and a few years as a police or military.
