    At what pumping distance (upward) will the typical pump motor be overstressed?

    They aren't designed to pump a great distance up. I wouldn't push more than 4 feet.

    Would also depend on the make and model, some are much better than others.

    See the thread from Susan14 about the Whirlpool Washer clotes wet at end of cycle... nankai has some experience with this issue.
