    Contractor pay
A friend of mine is has worked in Puerto Rico as a contractor for a month. When she goes into the system to enter her time to get paid, her employee number has disappeared. She can't get paid without entering the information into the system. She thinks the client may be trying to not pay her. Can they do this legally? Aren't they required to pay for the work done?

    Hello s:

Sure they are. However they may need to be prodded a little. I'd file suit in small claims court.

Wouldn't the path of less resistance simply be to furnish the employee number - again?

She can think anything she wants, she will not know until she calls and talks to them.
As a "contractor" they are not an employee but in reality a "business" who is doing work for them under an agreement to be paid a certain about of money, They would not be holding out taxes and they have no benefits

They need to contact the company and ask them to provide them with a way to log in, or where they need to mail or send their bill for services.
