And you want to know if you will be able to engage in that occupation? Check the speech pathologist licensing laws, if any, for where-ever you intend to work.

While you should, be able to, with any profession talk to current people doing it, talk to the licensing board. Next also remember that getting licensed is also not getting a job either, so it may also be a issue when people are doing your background after the interview.

Call the licensing board anonymously; they field this question all the time.
Hopefully your theft didn't involve drugs/meds.
