What can you do to neighbor's trees?
As I understand it, you can trim back any branches or roots that a neighbor's tree puts over your property line. However, as I also understand it, you can not do anything that will injure or kill the tree. So what happens if your neighbor's tree's roots are damaging structures on your property, but removing/stopping those roots is most likely going to kill the tree? Can you do it? Or do you have to let the tree live? In which case, does your neighbor have to recompense you for the damage to your property?

Oh, and this is really just an idle question, because I've always wondered about which of the sides trumps the other. Because, either way you look at it, one neighbor is going to lose valuable property: the tree on the one side, and whatever the tree's root's are damaging on the other.

Sue them for the damage to your property,
And you can dig up any and all roots on your property.
