I have orange peel textured walls. My painter patched the holes and then painted it without giving it the same texture as the wall. So now you can see smooth surfaces where all the holes used to be. Since it's already been painted over w/ Ben Moore Paper White eggshell paint, can I still add texture to the patched areas so it blends better with the rest of the all? It is such an eye-sore to see a hundred smooth patches on my walls.

A thick napped roller will create those... its not the intended texture of the walls... but years of painting and repainting the walls using the wrong rollers.

Smooth walls should have a very short napped roller or this will happen.

What I did when I bought my house was I skim coated and then primed my walls before painting again (for the very same reasons you are asking)... but that's a lot of work.. and very dusty to do... but it results in walls that will look brand new, but that may be beyond the average persons ability to do.

You may need several coats with the thick napped roller before it starts to blend into the background... with the paint drying between coats. It won't be invisible... only less visible.

What I would suggest... going over just the patched areas with a roller with primer and letting it dry between coats before painting the entire wall. You will get the lumpy paint buildup faster where you need it most.
