My 1998 honda accord will not shift out of park what do I need to do to repair it

. Check all under dash and under hood fuses with a test light or multimeter.

. Check that the brake light goes on, when the pedal is depressed; i.e. Brake On/Brake Off Switch.

. Check for a faulty Automatic Transmission Gear Position Switch. These switches are relatively high-wear items, especially on older vehicles. Before replacing, though, spray with WD-40 and check adjustment.
