I'm a 16 year old female and I want to beome emancipated. I not happy living with my mom and my step dad. I feel as if I can do better on my own. I want to live with one of my friends who I look up to as a father. He takes me everywhere and I'm a lot happier there and full of energy unlike I am living at my mothers. He is willing to take me from my mom but we know she won't sign me over to him and she will fight it. I don't want her to keep me from seeing him if the law does not place me in his care. I'm not working right now but I am looking for a job. My real father and I don't talk and I don't want anything to do with him he left my mother and I before I was born. What should I do?

Until you can prove yourself by getting a job and are able to move out on your own without anyone's help. You don't meet any of the requirements for getting emancipated assuming it is even legal to do where you live.

You most likely will end up waiting until your 18 to end up meeting all the requirements and passing it through the courts.

How old is the friend you look up to "as a father"? What exactly is your relationship and why would your mother attempt to keep you from seeing him if he's a father figure and your and your birth father are estranged?

I'm an investigator - unfortunately. I've heard variations of this before.

You can not be "living with someone else" to be emancipated, you have to have our own job and be able to support yourself in your own apartment. And there has to be a reason, just not being happen is not it.

Also is this a older boyfriend who you want to move in with, more than a "father" figure, sorry but you sort of make it sound that way

And yes, your mom can stop you from seeing him and perhaps even get a court order if needed. Also if she orders him ( and he is a adult) not to see you, she can in many US states get him for interference with custody.
