Ball valves are better for most water systems but I am unclear about your question on a sewage system. They do not normally have any valves. Can you further explain about the sewer system and why you need a valve? Ball valves fail less and are much easier and quicker to operate. The gate valve on my water main requires 25 turns to fully close, another ball valve requires a quarter trun start to finish. Also the handle on a ball valve will show if its open or closed, a gate valves never shows its position.
Great answer Bob! I too wonder exactly just where this valve will be installed on their sewer system. The very basic principal of a gravity system is that it be free flowing. I don't under the reasoning behind closing it of with any kind of valve. Regards, Tom
The only valve I would be aware of in a sewage system is a backwater valve
Valves are commonly used in Sewage Ejectors in hill side construction. However, ball valves are not preferred choice in sewer installations. Usually, blueprints call for gate valves because they can be taken apart and interior parts easily replaced w/o removing it from rigid pipe. As far as your second question goes - here I suggest you use Ball Valve because of ease of operation. Hope that helps. Milo
Good catch Milo. Bob and I were thinking regular sewage systems. Yes! A gate valve on a ejection system's best, Good luck. Tom
