What height do I rough in my shower body in my tub? My instructions say 30" from that ground, but that seems to low.....also what about the tub spout? I believe i've read at least 6" from top of tub? And shower height can be any height as I understand...

Can I fill the holes that my water lines run through my studs with great stuff, to stiffen up the intall, or will that cause a problem with expansion/contraction?

I generally try to meet with the tilesetter to try and position the spout, valve body and shower head.

Ideally, the spout and shower head are located in the center of a tile, because it is easier to drill a small hole, usually 1-3/8" or 1-1/4" in the tile than it is to make a small notch in the top and bottom of two tiles.

While the valve body is usually centered between two tiles, because it is easier to make a large hole in two tiles than it is to make one large hole in a single tile.

If you're not using tile, then the spout should be at least 3 to 4 inches above the rim of the tub, the valve body should be between 16 and 24 inches above the rim of the tub and the shower should be about 6' 8" from the bottom of the tub.

As for the fastening the pipe, I generally recommend using two hole pipe straps instead of insulators for CPVC -- Stud insulators are just a little too ridgid.

Wow, you have asked a hot question. Plumbers install heights are subject to personal preference. You may get 10 different answers on this one. No one is wrong, install to what is comfortable.
I usually set my shower outlet at 6' 5" from the rough floor and on a shower i come down 30" to the valve. On a tub I come down 48" to the valve and 7" below that for the spout. This is for a standard 14" high tub. These are center measurements.
