Water coming out of spout in tub after diverted to shower
I am sorry if this question has been asked. I am having problems with my tub/shower. I am not sure the brand on my bathtub faucet but it has one knob that controls hot and cold, on/off. The spout has a ring that you pull down on to divert the water to the shower head. If the water is on cold, the shower pops right on and water is completely diverted. If the water is on hot however, it sputters on and water continues to come out of the spout. The pressure in the shower is still okay but the water should not continue to come out of the spout. It has never done this before. I have not tried anything so I welcome suggestions.
    Regards,
    Julie

The spout on a bathtub is not a precision thing and after some use they do begin to let more and more water come out of the spout when it has been diverted to the shower, it is a pretty usual thing and they have to be replaced.
The spout your described is not a very popular spout and when you buy a new one you will probably have to buy a different kind.
There are different kinds of spouts and if you do not take the old one with you you will have to know which kind you need, one kind connects to a pipe that sticks our of the wall about one 1/2 inch, The other kind connects to a pipe that sticks out about 3 and 3/4 inches, this is probably the kind that you are going to need if you think that it need replacing.

I am guessing but is it a delta faucet?
You have 2 choices, either replace the spout with the same model or turn the cold on first.
