I have my laptop connected to my office network and it is working fine but I can not see any other system in my network neighborhood nor I can access them by their names I can only access them with IP address. One of the system I can ping but can not even access it by the IP address

Make sure that you have "network discovery" set to "on".

If you are using XP your workgroup name needs to be the same as the other PCs
