    Child support and SSI
I live in Ohio and my son's father has been ordered to pay child support. He is on SSI and was only ordered to pay $50.00 a month but he won't even pay that. He has subsequently bought a $2,000.00 big screen TV, and a $13,000.00 car with CASH from his back pay from Social Security. I have reported this to child support and they said what he does with his SSI is his business and that I cannot go after him legally for the child support he owes because he is on SSI. They insist there is nothing they can do to get the child support owed to my son. My son is on SSI as well and Social Security takes money out of his check every single month because there is a child support order in place even though his father in not paying. So not only do I not get the Child support, but my son's check is smaller every month so money is extremely tight. I don't know if Child support is even telling me the correct information and I cannot afford an attorney and the legal aid in my county does not handle this type of legal issue. What can I do and am I out of luck?

What exactly is the father receiving? If its SSI then it would be just for him and him alone. If it is SSDI then your child would also receive a benefit from it. The 2 are treated differently. We need to know what is being received. Also what your child is recieveing.

They are both getting Social Security Income. Temporary disability, my son is autistic, his father had cancer ( although he has been in remission for 2 years now, and has been told repeatedly by his doctor he can and SHOULD work) Child support ordered him to pay each month so I don't know why they would even order him to pay if he doesn't have to pay. It is affecting my son's SSI because they have to take a percentage of his check each month as long as there is an order for the child support. I told child support that but they don't care so my son isn't getting the $50 a month in support and then his SSI check has $20.00 a month taken out. I don't know what to do at this point.
