I have replaced the 30 gallon bladder pressure tank with a 50 gallon because of the amount of water draws in and outside the home, I have also replaced the square D pressure switch from a 20/40 to the new 30/50. The pressure in the tank when empty is set with the MFG suggestion at 2# less than the pressure switch and is correct when filled. The Shallow jet single line pump runs 7 to 10 minutes to refill the tank. It appears that the needle on the gauge for the pressure switch barely moves when it gets to 40 pounds of pressure. And if someone in the household is using the water while the pump is cycling it runs for 15 minutes or longer until the water has been turned off. I have a 3 inch well not sure how deep the water table is. The pump appears to be old just by looking at it.
I don't get any air in the water lines and the water line never looses prime. Is this telling me that the pump is in need of being replaced or rebuilt? Thanks Dave

That doesn't tell me what you charged the tank at. The cut in or the cut out point. I realize it's obviouse to you but it's not to me.

Tell me more about the water usage.. How many in your family? How many females? (They use more water then us guys do). What's the pump supplying outside the house? Could it be that the impeller on the pump is faulty? How old is the pump? Back to you, Tom

28 psi empty for a 30/50 switch. 2 male and 2 female
Water supply out side the home. Water spics for garden hoses.
The house is new to us however over 50 years and the pump looks like it too.

I was sure the bladder tank setting was correct I just wanted to have you verify it. It sounds like your pump may be at fault. I'd have a pump guy check it out and replace if necessary. Good luck, Tom

The cost of the pump is minimal compared to the years of use that we will get out of it. We bought a newly renovated foreclosure, everything is new! Except the pump of course. I hate to think about the persons misfortune that had lost this place. If only their bank would have worked with this person, they would still have all that they have invested. 196,000 for 42,000.
