    Is my baby breech?
Hi all! I am 35 weeks pregnant with my 3rd boy and I need some advice from moms or doctors who have had the same problems. I went to the hospital around 30 weeks and the nurse said something about my baby's heartbeat being so high on my belly, and asked if he was breech? My OB said not to worry myself about it because the baby still has time to turn. I went to the doctors last week for a check up (34 weeks) And my doctor found the heart beat on the upper right side of my belly. She was feeling around on my belly and had this weird look on her face, and was looking through my charts. Then she said they would see me in two weeks to check my cervix and the baby's position. Also, when the baby gets hiccups, I feel them most in my upper abdomen, about 6 inches above my belly button. And when he kicks or moves I feel it in my pelvis most, and It is sometimes extremely painful. I wanted to know who else has experienced this and if these are signs that my baby is breech?

I'm surprised your doctor would not have mentioned baby's position to you at your last visit. I would give them a call and ask about it to know for certain.

If baby is breech, most likely he will still turn, however there are things you can do to encourage this. One suggestion, that has a good success rate, is to see a chiropractor who is trained in the Webster technique. One round of manipulations has about a 75% success rate. If another round is needed, it goes up to about 95%. This is not a manipulation to baby or your abdomen.

Another would be to try a slant position. If you do not have any concerns with elevated blood pressure, you could lie on the floor with your legs up on a chair or sofa. Place pillows under your hips so that you are at a slant. You can do this for about 15 minutes, a few times a day (while watching television or practicing your breathing techniques are good times).

I think she is still hopeful that he will turn, but she didn't give me any techniques on coaching him into the right position. It is very frustrating, but I am high risk due to preeclampsia and high blood pressure in a previous pregnancy, and it almost seems like they don't want to get me too worked up over it. Are there any signs or symptoms that you know of that would prove my baby is breech? I am not worried about it, because either way, what is going to happen is going to happen anyway, I just like to be prepared, you know? Thank you for the advice ;)

Only way to know for sure would be with an ultrasound, but your doctor will usually be able to determine the presenting part. The heartbeat being picked up higher up can be indicative of a breech position. And, if you feel that you are having plenty of obvious kicks down low as well.

I'd give them a call and find out. Then you can decide what you may or may not want to try, if anything.

I'll ask my doctor, and see what she says. Thank you for the advice!

Doula has given you some great advice. I would also like to add that besides an ultrasound, Leopold's Maneuver's done by your doctor, midwife, or nurse can also determine the position of your baby.

You say you are high risk due to preeclampsia with a previous pregnancy. Do you have high blood pressure with this baby?
