I am on birth control and I still do not think my body is completely used to it because I never start my period on the set day when the sugar pills start. I started my period last week during the middle of the hormonal pills and it lasted a normal 5 days then stopped for four days. Now it came back today and started a little darker than usual but now seems to be going back to red. I did have sex in between the four days I wasn't on my period and before the first period. What does this mean?

How long have you been taking birth control pills? Sometimes it can take quite awhile to adjust. Women can also sometimes have what is called break through bleeding or have irregular cycles while using hormonal forms of birth control.

Another possibility is that you may just need a different sort of pill. There are a number to choose from and they can effect women differently.

If this has been ongoing for awhile, you may want to speak to your doctor about it and see if they feel another choice might work better for you.
