I have two dogs, one is an 7 year old Chihuahua and a one year old Yorkie. Both dog us pee pads to go to the bathroom. The Yorkie will uses the pee pads but many times will urinate against the wall, the cabinets etc. I will be moving to a home that has carpet throughout the house and I am concerned that he will start peeing all over the carpet. Any suggestions?

Well how I trained my dog when he was nine months old was luckily on my spring break three years ago and what I did was I took him on his leasg every hour then worked up to two hours and then up and up every couple days and each time he went and did his business outside I rewarded him. And since then he's been really good with going outside. The keybis staying constant and being ontop of it and when they do it outside praise them so they realize its good to do that outside and not inside. Also when they go in the house just correct the behavior and immediately put them outside. :) good luck hope I helped.

Problem with pee pads with some dogs is they don't know that they can go on that little pad only. To them it means all surfaces in the house are fair game. You may have better luck training them to go outside and not have the pee pads.

I agree with mogrann. You are going to have to re-train your dogs to the outside, a normal way for dogs to eliminate, otherwise you can kiss the carpet goodby!

Pee pads are the worst invention ever, in my opinion.

A dog is a dog, and they don't know the difference between a pee pad, the wall, or carpet. It's confusing, and setting your dog up for failure.

Potty training for the outdoors is the best method, again, in my opinion.

It's not as hard as most people think. Take your dog outside, choose a potty word "time to go, make, potty time, do your business", and wait until your dog does his/her thing. When he/she does, it's party time. Lots of praise, a treat, let him/her know that they did the right thing. Some dogs catch on right away, others take more time, but that's usually because of the owner. If you're consistent, it should not take long to train your dogs to pee outdoors.

If you continue to use puppy pads, expect accidents.
