    covered patio on/near pool deck
I have been wanting to do a covered area of around part of my pool for sometime now. My backyard is quite small - the pool deck starts at the house and ends at the back fence. This will require me to put my posts on my pool deck. It is a cool deck (I think that's the right kind), it looks kind of like stucco. Anyway, is there a method to effectively do this? I wanted to do a trellis like wood covering but fear that mounting this to the deck may not be possible. Anyone know how to do this or if it is even doable?

I was thinking of something like a 10x12 covering with 4-6" posts - or whatever the standard for that size is.

    thanks,

Well the main question is can you attach it to the house. If that answer is no can you sink 6x6s anywhere in the ground. This is your first hurtle. If you can do either then you are on your way to having a nice arbor. If you have a solid anchor place i.e. house or posts sunk into the ground you can simply drill holes in your deck slab for number# 5 rebar. These will do nothing but hole the posts on the deck in place. Then go to Lowe's not hd and buy some nice columns and bases and caps these will add to how your deck cover will look. Sink your posts or attach a board to the facisa of your house and you are off.

If you can not attach to the house or 6x6s you will have to rethink your plan because anything else will require large holes in your deck to sink posts. It can be done and they can be covered with the bases to columns you would use.

Let me know if I can help julie
